The Mind Body Connection

"Yes you can catch insanity" is probably not the best title for an article on mental health, but the information in it is worth sharing. In varying degrees of medical and lay terminology, the article explores growing evidence that there might be an immunological and physiological explanation for many mental health issues. For example, children with sudden OCD, tics, separation anxiety, and other symptoms often had strep infections soon before their first symptoms appeared. As our medical communities return to a more holistic understanding of the body-brain relationship, and the knowledge that at least some mental disorders are caused by infection, new treatments become possible.

This new thinking offers tremendous hope. ‘The most important fact is just because we don’t know what caused it doesn’t mean it’s not real, and it’s not in the brain.’
