What's your New Year's Resolution? Did you choose it hoping it will make you happier, or more well-adjusted?
The next few posts will highlight some fantastic, sustainable New Year's resolutions for you to consider.
The first one is:
Sleeping for fewer hours than your body needs messes with your physical and mental health. Lack of sleep makes it hard for you to regulate emotions, and having trouble sleeping is often a sign of more serious mental health issues. Try going to bed 10 minutes earlier every night to work up to a healthy amount.
Go to sleep when you feel tired - not much before or after. If you feel too anxious to sleep, get out of bed and walk around if you haven't fallen asleep within 20-30 minutes. Identify your worries and address what's on your mind. You can try journaling or free writing about it. Write down everything on your mind without a filter or letting your conscious mind get in the way. That will give you a better understanding of what's truly keeping you awake. If all else fails, read a textbook or listen to music to quietly engage your mind.
