What Nobody Tells You About Self-Care

Self care often involves #treatingyourself to your favorite healthy foods, working out, socializing with your friends, or binging on Netflix.

But Mawiyah Patten explores other important, but more difficult, forms of self care. As an example, she's found it hard to seek medical self-care, like yearly dentist appointments, because the depressive part of herself doesn't care about anything and the anxious part of her worries that something might be wrong.

Self-care includes a lot of adult-ing, and activities you want to put off indefinitely. Self-care sometimes means making tough decisions which you fear others will judge. Self-care involves asking for help; it involves vulnerability; it involves being painfully honest with yourself and your loved ones about what you need.
